Do You Take Good Care of Your Skin? Plus, A Customized Skincare Giveaway!

Back in August, we invited several beauty editors to our boutique for a preview of Oscillation Powerfoundation. Andrew Sotomayor, our fave mua, was there to do the demo and the editors' makeup. One of the things we couldn't help but notice was that every editor had a great complexion.

Were they born that way? Maybe, but this is a group that takes care of its skin. They have skincare regimens, many of them stay out of the sun, etc., etc. I know a few who took Accutane in the past to deal with bad acne.

Then there's blogger Julia Coney of All About The Pretty. Julia (above top pic) has the most amazing skin I've ever seen in my life. Celebrities would kill to have what she has. But boy does that girl work for it. I did a little interview with Julia that I've been meaning to run forever, but in the meantime you can check out fellow blogger Felicia Sullivan's post on Julia and her routine.

Here are a few simple, universal skincare rules. How many do you follow?
--Limit your sun exposure.
--Wear sunscreen.
--Don't smoke.
--Drink a lot of water.
--Wear moisturizer!
--Take off your makeup before you go to bed.

Sandy Linter, our beauty at every age expert (above bottom pic), has another great piece of advice. You should not use the same skincare you were using 10 years ago. Your skincare needs change, so make sure to update your product.

Sandy's a huge fan of Absolue Lotion, so I recently switched from Secret de Vie (which I absolutely love) to that product. I was kind of dying to try it because she uses it on all of her celebrity clients. (I know. Lame reason.) I have to say it's a very cool product. It leaves my skin very glowy and it does something miraculous with my makeup. It's almost like my makeup sticks to it like a primer and lasts longer. Maybe Sandy can weigh in with a comment later.

Anyway, because we're all skincare junkies around here in the P.R. department and we really believe in our skincare products, let's do a giveway. To enter, tell us what skincare advice you follow or any advice you'd like to share. We'll pick one post at random and that person can pick any two items from our skincare range on lancome-usa.com. Please post by Sunday night. Good luck!

I don't smoke, I drink a ton of water, take my makeup off at night, and I love to pamper my skin with a ton of skincare products. I can also tell you a list of things that I do wrong! I workout with my makeup on, drink too much diet pepsi, and sometimes forget to apply spf. As far as advice goes...I try to follow the "basics" and all I can say is - enjoy being a woman. My skincare products are the only things in my entire house that are just mine. Even if it's only for 10 minutes a day...It's all about me, so I enjoy it. Buy the pretty bottles, splurge on that lip conditioner...your worth it!

How awesome!
-I don't smoke.
-I'm wash my face every morning and EVERY night, there are no excuses no matter how plastered you are (sorry it had to be said).
-I moisturize every morning and use a night treatment every night. And eye cream.. I LoVE eye cream!
-I get month facials.

I don't smoke either because it is really bad for your body and your skin. And the most important things is always take off your makeup before sleep.

can I say all of the above mentioned skin care advice?! because I totally do all of them!

I always protect my skin from the sun, drink lots of water for it to become hydrated, lather on moisturizers lotions and creams, plus washing the dirt and makeup off my face before I go to bed.

1. I don't smoke or drink
2. I wear sunscreen and limit sun exposure.
3. I try to drink 8 cups of water a day
4. I take a multi vitamin
5. Wash my face twice a day and change my routine depending on how my skin feels.

A lot of times it isn't recommended to exfoliate more than twice a week, but i find that with my easily clogged skin, exfoliating once a day has really cleared up my face.

My mom taught me from a very young age to stick to a routine of cleanser/toner/moisturizer, morning and night, no matter what. Her tagline was "take care of your skin and you won't need to wear makeup until you're an old lady like me."

Later on, I learned on my own not to change up your routine TOO drastically too often. I had a fickle phase of "testing" moisturizers last year (brought on by a few too many Sephora samples) that I think permanently messed with my skin type! I now change *one* thing at a time, instead of trying out a different product every week. I don't know how bloggers do it!

I learned from my godmother, Kate, to always wear sunscreen! No matter what, slap that sunscreen on. Her skin is perfect, so I listen to her :)

i've never smoked (and never will), i drink plenty of water, i put on moisturizer, i wash my face both morning and evening but unfortunately, the one thing i always forget is to put on sunscreen. and heck, i spend a LOT of time in the sun :( i get so scared of sunscreen as they always seem so thick and...cloggy :-|

I defintely take good care of my skin! I wash my pillow cases every week. I try to always drink as much water as possible. Sunscreen is a must all year round for me. And of course no face picking for me, I hate to see people do it, too. lol

Smoking is gross, so I don't do that.
I always wash my makeup off at night no matter how sleepy I may be.

It's also good to exfoliate once a week. Slough off those dead skin cells! :)

I don't smoke - not just for my skin, but for my health. Wear moisturizer with spf... oh yeah, I recently started using eye cream - works wonders!

my skincare regimen is epic.

MORNING: oil cleanser, foaming cleanser, non-alcohol toner, light day moisturizer, spf cream

EVENING: cleansing tissue, bi-facil on eyes, oil cleanser, different foaming cleanser, non-alcohol toner, genefique, first night moisturizer, second night moisturizer, possibly a zit gel if i have any breakouts (which thankfully, is only that certain time of the month...)

3x a week alternating facial masks!

I have to agree with the above poster who said genetics is like winning the lottery! Anyways I'll be the first to admit that I'm pretty lazy about my skincare, and I really have no hard and fast rules especially when I have seen those who "follow" the rules look old and haggard before their time and those who don't follow the "rules" have lovely, lovely skin. Bottom line use the skincare and do what works for you : )

I follow all of the above and would add exfoliation to the list. Exfoliation becomes even more important as we age.

I do not smoke, i drink plenty of water, and moisturize evry single day!
my weekly routine includes exfoliating, moisturing treatment masks, etc.
NO SUN AT ALL, never really liked it anyway!
This week I'm sooooo happy cuz I bought my Genifique Yeux ... it's been 2 days and it already shows... I fell in love instantly with Genifique visage... with this one... YOU HAD ME AT HELLO!

I think skincare is really important. The skin is our largest organ so we better keep it healthy.

I limit my sun exposure, I almost always wear sunscreen( at least SPF 15) I don't smoke or drink alcohol, I wear moisturizer (either Aqua Fusion or Hydra Zen, both oil-free to avoid whiteheads), but I don't think I drink enough water... I'll try to improve on that area!

It's true that Lancôme skincare really work!! I couldn't live without them! My mum uses Secret de Vie and Absolue... from time to time I ask her to let me use them and WOW!!! They are amazing!! But I guess I'm too young to wear them every day.

The best advice I've received recently is that you must maintain a healthy diet to have good skin. Skincare regimens are just "icing" on the cake! Although, I would definitely consider Lancome products to be much more than "icing"!!!

But I have noticed after greatly improving my diet that my skin has changed dramatically!

Kerry Diamond said...

Lots of good suggestions here! Rai, you're so right about the pillowcases. The same goes for makeup brushes and puffs. You should clean those on a regular basis.

Daniele said...

I never ever sleep with my makeup on. I wash my hands thoroughly before applying and retouching makeup because I use my fingers a lot to apply product. I try to use sunscreen all the time, but I have to admit that I often forget. I do use moisturizer most of the time, and change my pillowcase a lot. :)

princess said...

I'm happy to say I do all of the things on that list! but something that has really made my skin look better is eating more fruits and vegetables. they're packed with nutrients and help keep you hydrated. the best advice I have though is to find a good moisturizer that works with your skin and go easy on the face make up

Luca said...

I make sure to apply cleanser onto my face for a full minute before washing off - that way, any special ingredients in your cleanser will actually absorb into your skin!

I always wear sunscreen year round no matter what the weather. Even if I'm wearing a hat. Plenty of sleep lots of water and I never smoked.

I don´t smoke, I´m always wearing sunscreen, I wash my face twice a day and I follow a complex skincare routine with lots of anti-aging products. But I guess I should drink more water (I´m more of a Coke person). :)

I always apply moisturizer with spf and I definitely agree with drinking plenty of fluids. My other big must-do is to use a scrub/exfoliant at least once a week.

i really really love the advice of exfoliating your skin at least once a week. it makes my skin super nice and soft afterward.

The thing I did a few months ago that totally improved my skin was to add a serum to my night-time routine, and use a moisturizer with alpha-hydroxy acids that promotes cell turnover. The texture of my skin has changed quite a bit!

I actually have skin with many challenges (acne, rosacea, dryness, some oiliness, large pores, hyperpigmentation). For the acne, the best thing I discovered all year was Scarzone medicine 2% salicylic acid. I also supplement my diet with vitamins (A,C,B,zinc). I try to drink lots of water. I have very little caffeine. I don't wash my face with soap and I don't wear makeup, and I believe this is helping curb breakouts. (Washing face with soap can suck oil out of skin and skin overcompensates by producing more oil). I also use cold water to cleanse skin, as hot water promotes rosacea and dryness. I limit sun exposure because I have a history of skin cancer in my family.

I don't smoke. I drink plenty of water. I don't drink sodas. I eat plenty of avocado, nuts and fish. I exfoliate 2 times per week. I take of my make up at night and I wash my face with a gentle cleanser in the am and pm. Every time that I get out of the shower or wash my face, I apply moisturizer by tapping with my fingers to improve circulation. I use moisturizer with 15SPF. I re- apply moisturizer every time my skin feels dry, specially in the winter. I make sure all the products that I use are high quality, it makes a lot of difference and I do my research so I buy the products that are best suited for me.

My mom has always preached to never go to bed with makeup on. I am pretty good about this because I notice especially if I accidentally fall asleep with eye makeup/mascara on, my eyelashes will fall out in the morning. My grandmother always tells me to eat lots of fruit and vegetables to have healthier skin. I only drink water and wear SPF on my face everyday. I always apply makeup with clean hands and I sleep on my back with my hair pushed back so it's out of my face. Lots of little things I do to keep my skin in tip top shape!

diskogal said...

I pretty much do everything you mentioned and I love to give myself home facials every now and then! A thing I've also noticed is that when I don't have time to eat properly and start eating junk, my skin starts breaking up...so I guess proper nutrition is very important too.

I am hardly ever in the sun so I usually wear only SPF 15. I don't freak out when I forget to wear sunscreen when I'm only outside for 10 minutes because don't the rays provide much-needed vitamin D? I don't smoke, I definitely drink a lot of water, I wear moisturizer, & I am OCD about taking my makeup off before bed! :D Tip: exfoliate every week!

okie said...

I make sure that my moisturizer is completely absorbed before applying my make-up. Eat a well balanced diet, drink plenty of water and regular exercise keeps that healthy glow going.

Sarah said...

Eating healthy and a good daily supplement have helped me a lot. I also wash my face gently twice before applying an alcohol free toner and moisturizer twice a day. I definitely exfoliate twice a week and it has helped tremendously along with a mask once a week. Keeping my makeup brushes clean, my pillowcase clean, and not touching my face have helped me since my teen years!

Drink lots of water and herbal teas. Each tea does something wonderful for your skin and health. I don't drink alcohol anymore and exercise 6 days per week. I exfoliate weekly, sleep on a contoured pillow and use my Genefigue twice a day and Absolue Precious Cells moisturizer during the day and Absloue Night Serum and High Res. Refill 3x at night. I also use the Ageless Minerale Foundation during the day. I'm 41 and people think I'm 6 1- 10 years younger than I am!
